BERNICE CHRISTINE PAYLOR, born April 10, 1931 in
Baltimore, Maryland was loved and nurtured by her parents
Warren and Beatrice Harrison. On Sunday, October 8, 2017, she
answered the call of God and transitioned from earth to glory
where she will forever dwell, safe in the arms of Jesus.
Bernice was educated in the Baltimore City Public School
System. She was proud to be a graduate of the Paul Laurence
Dunbar High School.
Bernice was employed by the Rite Aid Corporation which was
formally the Reads Drugstore. She retired after working more
than 35 years. She also worked as a School Crossing Guard for
five years while her children were young. She eagerly served for
twenty years as an Election Judge because she considered it her
patriotic duty.
On April 10, 1950, Bernice was united in marriage to her
beloved William M. Paylor Jr. They celebrated fifty-nine years
of togetherness until God called William home in December of
2009. From this happy union four children were born, one of
whom, Bernard, preceded them in death.
Bernice, who accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized
by Rev. Simon Williamson at the Faith Baptist Church. As a
young person she was active in the church Sunday School and
the Baptist Young Peoples Union. As an adult, she actively
served in many ministries of the church including the Matrons,
the Family Life Committee and the Senior Missionaries. But
the greatest joy of her church life was singing God’s praises as
a member of the Simon Williamson Memorial Choir and the
Women’s Chorus. She remained an active, faithful member
of Faith until November of 2012 when her health began to
decline and she was no longer able to attend church.
