William A. Marks, son of the late Billie and Mary Marks was born on October 15, 1935 in Blackridge, Virginia. William who was also known as Koon, but to some as Pop and Bernard, was the 9th child of 10 children. He was a quiet child but was very friendly as an adult. He departed this life on November 2, 2020 after a lengthy illness.
He received his education in the public-school system of Virginia. William worked on the farm with his father until he finished school and moved to Washington, DC. After William moved to DC. he met his soulmate Rosalyn Lambert, better known as Roz, who he married soon after. He and Roz had three beautiful children together and were married for 62 years, until she departed this life in 2016. During his wife’s time of illness, he enjoyed caring for her, and keeping her company while she was bedridden.
William was an exceptional husband, father, provider and leader for his family, both spiritually and morally. He worked for the Baltimore Gas and Electric for 30 years where he retired as a supervisor. William gave his life to Christ at the age of 12 at Meherrin Baptist Church in Virginia; he later joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. His church family adored him, and the feeling was mutual.
He enjoyed his coffee & donuts first thing in the morning; fishing, and once he retired, he enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and helping in any way that he could. From his daily walks he became very well known in the neighborhood as Mr. Mark. William and Roz enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with their roll dogs Leroy and Nell. He also loved to go hunting with Leroy and Emmitt and they were often accompanied by his dogs Chrissy and Rattler on these trips.
During the last 4 months, William faced health challenges that kept his daughter and granddaughter close by his side. In his last days, he was showered with love by his immediate family, until he transitioned into his eternal life.
Williams wife Rosalyn and their two sons William and Michael proceeded him in death. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his darling daughter Yolanda, five granddaughters Chanel, Cintia, Sheria (Lloyd), Tiffany, and Cassandra, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, one devoted lifelong brother/friend Leroy, two daughter in laws Vinus Marks and Lucinda Marks and a host of family and friends.
