Wayne Rollins Obituary

On Tuesday, November 25, 1947, in Frederick, Maryland, the late Francis Rollins Addison gave life to Wayne Martin Rollins who transitioned from this side of glory on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the age of 74 he was the oldest of six siblings. After leaving Frederick, Wayne embarked on a life in Baltimore where he resided until his death. It was in Baltimore where he established his roots and began to live life out loud.

At an early age Wayne received water baptism and later in life accepted Jesus Christ. He received his formal education in the Baltimore City Public Schools System and graduated from Fairmount High School. While attending Fairmount he met Joyce who attended Dunbar and it was through that courtship that Wayne attended Evans Temple Memorial Church of God under the leadership of the late Bishop Lee Evans. During that union between him and his then wife they were blessed with two daughters Tracy and Joanna. As his life progressed, he never separated himself from the Baltimore City Public Schools System, he worked there until he retired in 2011, the two schools that truly benefited from his presence was Dunbar High School and Laurence G. Paquin School. Committed to his interest in sports, he coached both basketball and baseball in various capacities earning him numerous awards and trophies as a coach thus mentoring the youth.

As an athlete, he excelled at basketball, baseball, and softball participating in various organized sports leagues as a windmill pitcher and third baseman. At times, his windmill pitch was clocked more than 60 miles per hour. “Flash” affectionately known, was a man who was passionate about sports but one thing for sure when you heard the name Flash you knew who he was. Wayne had a love for life and music. He was a skilled hand dancer with slick hand and feet movements. For those who knew him, just envision “Flash” hand dancing at the various clubs, the Arch Social Club and on the Moonman show.

He was a wealth of knowledge in both sports, and his contributions to the community that will never be forgotten . On May 9, 1992, he played and umpired in the Bea Gaddy’s Softball fundraiser, participated in the Easter Seals Softball fundraiser, and the Afro Mrs. Santa Softball fundraiser as an umpire to name a few.

He is survived by his two daughters Tracy and Joanna; eight grandchildren, Nasheau, Najee, Nakeria, Catherine, Cayla, Coreen, Dillon Wayne, and Tristen; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Bentley and Ernest; two sisters, Linda and Prithilla. His memories will be cherished by his aunts, Ida Brown and Alice McBride, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Wayne also had a heart for his daughters and sister Brandy who he called (Chicken Box). He will be deeply missed by his love Ms. Regina Bunn who stood by his side until the end.
