Virginia Robertson Obituary

On Friday, May 28, 2021 our beloved mother; grandmother; great grandmother and great-great grandmother, Mother Virginia D. Robertson, departed this life peacefully at her home to be at rest with her LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST.

Mother Robertson was born on April 1, 1925 in Portsmouth, VA. The eldest child born to the union of the late Arthur Brooks, Sr and the late Irene Branch. She was preceded in death by her siblings Arthur Brooks, Jr.; Mother Evelyn White (d. 2001); Deacon Olanda B. Gibson, Sr. (d. 2019).

Virginia accepted CHRIST during her early childhood at the GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH of Portsmouth, VA. She continued her Christian fellowship at the HIGHWAY CHRISTIAN CHURCH of CHRIST-APOSTOLIC FAITH in Baltimore, MD under the leadership of the late Bishop Fred W. Page, Sr. She later transferred her membership to the ST. JOHN CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CHURCH in Baltimore, under the leadership of the late Rev. Tommie L. Jenkins, Sr where she was one of the founding members. Later in her journey Mother Robertson enjoyed her last fellowship at the ST. JOHNS BAPTIST CHURCH in Baltimore under the leadership of Rev. Lee Pearson. Her ministerial works over the years included the Prayer Band; the Missionary Board; Evangelistic Outreach Team; the Senior Choir #1; the Mother Board as well as serving in any capacity where she could be used. Mother Robertson was known as a strong and willing worker in the kingdom.

She received her early education in the Norfolk County Public School System and migrated to Baltimore, MD in 1943 in pursuit of greater opportunity and to begin her adult life. Shortly after arriving in Baltimore, she found gainful employment at Levi s Laundromat before starting her career at the Sinai Hospital and later the historic African-American Provident Hospital of Baltimore.

Mother Robertson was preceded in death by her late husband Deacon James R. Robertson (d. 1981). She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory four children, Rev. Inetha Franklin; Rev. Arlene Spence; Rev. Marvin Johnson, Sr. (Jill Johnson) and Ivy R. Robertson. She also leaves to mourn eleven grandchildren, George Jr.; Jenean; Chereese; Titia; Tammi; Marvin Jr.; Aaron; Tavia; Toyie; Tiffani and Ryan. She was predeceased by two grandsons – Cermontinia (d. 1996) and Alexander III (d. 2005); twenty-eight great grandchildren; twenty-three great-great grandchildren; brother in-law, Mr. James D. White of Portsmouth, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends and three special friends Evon Cure, Cheryl Barnes and Brian Diggs
