Verlon Eugene Mills was born on July 30, 1931, to the parents of William and Alice (Williams) Mills in Nash County North Carolina. Verlon Mills was the second oldest child in his line of siblings, which consisted of five brothers and five sisters.
He attended Taybron Elementary School in Middlesex, North Carolina and graduated from Spaulding High School in Spring Hope, North Carolina. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Special Forces of the army and received the National Defense medal. He had also served in the Korean War.
He retired from Bethlehem Street Corporation in Maryland. He is the father of four children, having one son and three daughters. He was also a member of VFW Post 19. He was a member of various motorcycle clubs, including the Vikings and Roadhog motorcycle club. It was one of his many hobbies, as he would go on countless motorcycle rides with his wife or nephew.
Verlon was preceded in death by his son, Jon Arthur Mills; his three brothers: Aburnes Mills, Willie Hassel Mills, Whelon Sylvester Mills; three sisters Elsie Williams, Agnes Williams, and Alice May High.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his current loving and loyal wife, Lossie P. Mills; his loyal and faithful watchdog “Meme”; three daughters: Linda Rice of PA, Maggie Ann Mills of PA; Chenell Robinson of MD; stepdaughter, Melissa Cooks of NY; one brother, Samuel B. Mills of NC; two sisters, Pennina Pownall and Rethella Flowers of GA; a devoted and loyal nephew, Charlie Battle of MD along with a host of other relatives and friends.
