Veda Mae Green was born May 26, 1946 to the late Ralph and Evelyn Green.
She was born and raised in Baltimore City and received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools.
She received Christ at a very young age and lived her life with Catholic beliefs. She was a hard worker who rarely missed even a day. She finally retired after 20 years of work at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
From the union of her parents, Veda had two sisters with which she shared unbreakable bonds. As the youngest, she was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Carolyn Nesbit (James) and middle sister, Harriet Brown (Joseph). From her siblings, she was blessed with a whole host of nieces and nephews who she loved and from whom that love was reciprocated.
Veda loved to have fun. She was always the life of the party and could be caught dancing and snapping her fingers whenever music was played. She really knew how to have a good time. Her energy was so mesmerizing and contagious she made friends wherever she went. She remained lifelong friends with some. Debbie, Vonzella, Nancy and Jeanette could be found partying alongside her wherever she was. As the cycle of life ended for some, she gained even more friends like Angie who kept her company for many days. There was also Bobby who she’d developed a long-time special relationship with who was there until the end.
Although Veda was known for having a great time, her life came with great sacrifices. Starting at a young age, she began raising not only her own kids but kids in the neighborhood. Her caring and nurturing character carried on throughout her life as she mothered her grand kids and even great grands but she wouldn’t have it any other way. Her life was filled with service to others. For that, she will always be appreciated in the hearts of many.
Veda was preceded in death by her youngest son, Carroll and survived by Ralph.
She also bore two beautiful girls, Monica and Lisa (Richard). She loved her kids unconditionally and would do anything in the world for them. They were her first loves and she was theirs. On November 6, 1992, Veda married her late husband, Jacob Hartley becoming Veda Mae Hartley. From this marriage, she gained 5 sons and 6 daughters, about 19 more grands and a ton more great grandkids. Her “Poco” loved her and she remained the love of his life during their 30 years of marriage and into his death. Still, the greatest loves of her life were her grandkids. Her life can be considered fulfilled as she watched them bloom into their individual lives. She was overwhelmingly loved by Derrick (Mary), Robert, Ralph, Eric (Toya), Donte and Erica (Jarad). From her 6 grandkids, she was blessed with 19 great grandkids able to keep her memories alive and carry on her legacy.
