On Thursday, January, 14, 2021, Thomas Earl Person, loving husband and father, transitioned peacefully from labor to rest at the age of 79.
Thomas, affectionately known as “Earl”, was born on April 21, 1941 in Blackridge, Virginia to the late Santee and Bessie Person. Out of Santee and Bessie’s union, he was the youngest of eleven children.
Earl was educated in the Virginia public school system. He started masonry work at a very young age. Perfecting his craft, Earl quickly progressed to become a Master Brick Mason and started his own company. T.E. Person Masonry was founded in the early 70’s and is responsible for many of the buildings and brick work you see throughout the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Earl was no stranger to hard work. He enjoyed going to work every day and truly loved his job. After Earl retired, he still served as a mentor and hands-on advisor to his son, Kevin, in his masonry business.
In July 1965, Earl married the love of his life, Jacqueline “Jackie” Shaw. Earl adored Jackie with all of his heart. Two sons, Eric and Kevin, were created from their union. Earl was a dedicated father and great provider for his family. Throughout Eric and Kevin’s childhood, Earl would take them BMX and Motocross racing. As teenagers he enjoyed teaching them the masonry business.
Earl had an infectious personality and an unforgettable smile. Meeting up with his friends at his garage on Patterson Park Avenue was one of his favorite lifelong pastimes. Earl had a love for muscle cars and drag racing. Cars weren’t Earl’s only hobby; he also liked to do gardening and landscaping.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Santee and Bessie; his siblings, Corine, Floyd, Santee, Louise, Thelma and Edith; and his son, Eric.
Earl leaves to cherish his fond memories to his wife and best friend, Jackie; his son, Kevin; three granddaughters, Kelsey (Bell-Bell), Kennedy (Kenn-Spen) and Taylor; three brothers, Johnnie, William and Leroy; one sister, Barbara; three sisters-in-law’s, Elain, Ercell and Yvonne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
