Steve O’Neil Boyd, the only child of the late Robert Smith and Aline Boyd-Winley was born on August 1, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised by his loving Uncle and Aunt, Percy and Alberta Boyd. He accepted Christ at an early age and for many years he was an active member of the First Christian Community Baptist Church under the leadership the late Reverend Ernest Humphrey. Indeed, at the age of thirteen, he was an excellent typist who often typed and made mimeograph copies of the weekly Church’s bulletins.
Steve was educated in the Baltimore Public School System, and after earning his Associates Degree at Baltimore Community College, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970. While serving his country he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and a Combat Action Ribbon. In 2009, after thirty years of service as a Contribution Associate, Steve retired from the Maryland Department of Labor’s Division of Unemployment Insurance.
Throughout his entire life, Steve remained fun loving, generous and compassionate. He enjoyed good food and watching horror movies. He loved reminiscing about the good old days and attending gospel programs. He was the ultimate “Cuz” to many. Family meant everything to him. He always gave of his time and treasure. Truly, Steve was our gift from God.
Steve leaves to cherish his memories: goddaughter Denetria Green, godson Demetric Farmer; a very special cousin Joyce Williams; and a host of Boyd and Gladden cousins too numerous to mention.
