Sharon Coby Obituary

Sharon “Ma” Coby

Sharon was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 26, 1952 to the late Paul and Ruth (Johnson) Coby. She was one of eleven children. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and countless loved ones. She departed her loving family on November 19, 2022.

Sharon received her primary education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She later studied at Coppin State College, presently known as Coppin State University, before receiving training to become a Master Chef. As a trained master chef, Sharon was known for her extraordinary skills. She managed a pretty tough kitchen throughout the various cafés she served as a master chef. She created one-of-kind dishes that were enjoyed by many. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching court TV, playing solitaire and shopping at Walmart.

Sharon loved to be called “Ma” by her children and grandchildren. She was mother to Ruth “Tina” Coby and Clarence “CC” Coby. She raised her children as a single parent in Baltimore, MD with love and devotion.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and was most proud of them, always ready to tell a story about her children and grandchildren. She also loved talking on the phone with her sister and friends.

Sharon was a friend to many. She was the kind of friend who always had a listening ear and offered advice for almost any problem you were facing. Many would say that she was funny and blunt and her advice was always humorous, direct and honest.

Sharon had a special way of making everyone she met feel seen and heard; so much so, that everyone she encountered thought they were her favorite. Everyone who knew her felt her big heart and giving nature.

Sharon leaves to cherish her precious memories, two children: Ruth Coby and Clarence Coby, grandchildren: Clarence Jr., Coby, Danae, Heaven, Trent, Alia, and Ava; son-in-law Clifton McClellan and daughter-in-law Laura Coby; brothers: Bruce Coby and Paul Coby, sister & best friend Paula Webster; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
