AND THEN THERE WAS ROSA…

Rosa Squire Mason was born October 31, 1936 in Gaston (Northampton County), North Carolina to the parentage of Valve and Bernice Squire.  She was the ninth of nine children.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE…

Rosa joined the Gaston Baptist Church at an early age where she remained a member.  Upon moving to Maryland, she joined Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church.  However, she never severed her ties to her home church, returning many years for homecoming revival until her health declined.  She loved Gaston Missionary Baptist Church and looked forward to her hearing “the preaching and singing preacher” as she often referred to Rev. Flood.

I’VE GOT TO BE ME…

For some time, Rosa worked as a Nurses’ Aide at Sinai Hospital.  She was later employed with Western Electric (until retirement), where she met and maintained long-lasting friendships with her former co-workers.  Many tell of how Rosa made the team work easy with her funny stories and jokes.  In addition, she also loved fishing, from the banks of the Roanoke River to Massachusetts.  She would travel and catch coolers of fish, returning home to put them in her back yard and telling her neighbors to help themselves.  If you needed a few dollars, a long or short-term loan, you could count on Rosa to have your back.

Shopping was another passion.  Rosa knew how to put together an outfit and wear it with style and class.  Everything had to be coordinated from head to toe.  She would always give others fashion advice If you didn’t seem to have it together.

Rosa loved to cook.  For the holidays, she made delicious sweet potato pies using her secret recipe. Family and friends expressed how delicious they were.

PREPARATION FOR HOME…

On a daily basis, Rosa would call and give her testimony about how God had kept her.  Her praise was always, “I give my God the Glory.  For He brought me from the fields of North Carolina and helped me to raise my daughter.”  As her health declined, she would say, “I am not worried about anything.  I know where I am going.”

GOING HOME…

On Thursday, October 31, 2019, at 5:48 a.m., after a challenging illness, Rosa courageously and peacefully answered God’s call on her BIRTH DATE, which was OCTOBER 31, 1936.   What an amazing celebration!  To God be the Glory.
