We are here to celebrate the loving memory of RICHARD WRIGHT, husband of Christine Virginia Wright. Richard was born June 5, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Willie and Josephine Wright. He was the youngest of seven children. His late siblings all knew him as the baby brother that would be there to lend a helping hand. Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Wright and Edward Wright and four sisters, Catherine Suggs, Mae Wright, Rosetta Wright, and Evalena Wright. He departed this life on March 3, 2023 after a lengthy illness.
Richard received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He attended high school at Carver Vocational High. While at Carver he discovered a love for carpentry. This passion turned into a career working for Baltimore City Housing Authority for 35 years. During that time, he served the people of Lafayette Projects. He was known as the "Friendly Maintenance Engineer." He was a person who helped everyone he knew. Everybody knew Mr. Wright and his infectious smile.
Richard married Christine on April 8th and their love story began 53 years ago. Mr. Wright was a man who served his family through a love of cooking. He would help, cook, and do anything for friends, neighbors or anyone that visited their home. You wanted delicious pancakes; Pop-pop would make the best. His home was filled with laughter and smiles, breakfast on the table, fried chicken and his collard greens loved by all of his grandchildren. You were always welcomed to his home, and to his table.
Richard, affectionately known to his grandkids and family as "Pop-pop" had such a quiet manner. He never needed or wanted a spotlight. He supported his family, neighborhood friends and college friends in so many ways. He sat in the corner of so many gyms watching and cheering us on. He would serve so many by giving you a ride, or the last of his spoils to help you. His legacy to us all was to serve and keep serving until God calls you home. His favorite song was, "if I can help somebody along the way then my living is not in vain." He loved "good talk" with his friends from the shop. He could sit and talk about the old days for hours. He reminded us to the last days, " I'm still here." Yes, Pop-pop you will live here forever in our hearts. Pop-pop, we will never forget your laughter and humor. One day we will find all the dollars that you have hid for us.
Richard leaves behind a devoted wife; Christine Wright, his children in order from oldest to youngest, the late Kris "Yvetter" Butler, Ralph Lee (Janelle), Eric "Smiley" lee (Dawn), Kurk Lee (Sonya), Tiffany Clarke (James) and Jamal Wright (Tomiko). Two nieces, Natalie Murphy and Tara Wright. Two nephews Algia Ford III (wife Gayle), and Eric Wright. Cousin Maxine Bess and twenty grandchildren, five great grandchildren. His shop friends, Eric John, Keven and host of friends and family.
