A champion of faith has joined the great cloud of witnesses. Lawrence C. Snells Sr. passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023. He passed away peacefully in his sleep the day he was being honored by U.S. Veterans of Gilcrist Center. Lawrence was surrounded by a host of family and friends on that beautiful Sunday afternoon. He enjoyed studying the Word of God, fellowshipping with his Nazarene Baptist family, watching movies, and spending time with his loved ones, including his son, Lawrence Jr., sister, Rose, and precious granddaughter, Grace.
Lawrence was an ordained elder, U.S. Navy veteran, and a retired mail carrier. He shared the gospel with many, including those in his apartment complex, the Queen Esther Apartments. Elder Snells served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years starting in 1967. He believed that God told him to join and surrendered his life to Christ while serving in Vietnam. During his time there he received several medals including a Purple
Heart, Four Bronze Stars, and a National Defense Service Medal. Elder Snells was a mail carrier for over a 20 years U.S. Postal Service before retiring.
Elder Snells received news that he had prostate cancer in 2015 and embarked on the journey of recovery. After several years, the cancer went into remission, but returned at the end of 2022. Elder Snells made it his duty to share his life's story with others through a book he wrote titled, "The Godhead and I." The book was published on Amazon on August 5th, the day before he he passed.
He will greatly be missed by family and friends. We celebrate the life Elder Snells lived through Christ.
