Kenneth Hopson Obituary

KENNETH LEROY HOPSON, was peacefully called home to be united with his Heavenly Father on November 16, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Kenneth who was affectionately known as "Leroy" was born to the late William and Luvenia Hopson on January 30, 1927 in South Hill VA. He received his education in South Hill, VA.

At the age of 17, he joined the US Army where he served 4 years during WWII. In 1946, he married Ethel Mae Jones. A few years later, he and his wife relocated to Baltimore, MD. They were married for over 60 years until her untimely death. From that union, they were blessed with 8 beautiful children, Linda, William, Kenneth, Lillian, Cynthia, Clyde (Louie), Jeroundal, and Annette. Later in life he had Kevin, Jacqueline and Quinn. He had a devoted and loving daughter, Annette, who spent her time taking care of her father throughout his life and lengthy illness. She always made sure he was taken care of. Leroy always encouraged his children to work hard and get a good education. Leroy started his career at Bethlehem Steel. After many years of working, he retired to concentrate on things he enjoyed.

He had a kind heart and was always joyful. He loved a good conversation and was rarely in a  bad mood. He enjoyed watching the Orioles especially when they played the Yankees. He loved driving and his favorite vehicles were Buicks. He had owned several of them. Leroy accomplished many things in his life. He owned a mechanic business in South Baltimore, he became a faithful member of the Masonic Temple where he was a 33rd degree mason, and he was the 1st African American crane operator at Bethlehem Steel.

He was preceded in death and went to join his loving wife Ethel Mae Hopson, his children Kenneth Hopson, Clyde Hopson and Cynthia Hopson. Leroy leaves his cherished memories with his children a daughter-in-law, Judy Hopson; 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
