Joyce Yancey, daughter of the late James Yancey Sr. and Ellen Yancey, was born on July 20, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life suddenly on September 2, 2020.
She went to The Arc School and was a part of their program for most of her life. Although, Joyce faced many challenges, she put a smile on the faces of everyone she encountered in the program.
Joyce was a beloved baby sister who always enjoyed her sweets and snacks. She was known for giving a smile to those she enjoyed, but she was also known for letting you know it’s time to go or leave her alone by giving a “Yancey” stare. For many years, Joyce provided us with laughs and smiles, and even though her path included many hurdles and obstacles, she held tight to those that loved and cared for her. She also held tight to cups of juice and whoever would give her what she wanted. She had a special bond with her older sister Loretta, who provided care and support for her. Joyce Yancey will be sincerely missed by everyone that knew her.
She leaves to mourn: two sisters, Loretta Gardner and Sandra Yancey-Archie; one brother in-law, Collin Gardner El.; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank: The Arc Program, Alicia Lambert and Ms. Peggy; Chimes and Pho Vital Agencies; A special group of caregivers-Denise, Wanda, Gertrude, and Natasha; Our Neighbors; Faith Baptist Church (Rev. Maddox) and Restoration Ministries (Bishop Joshua Harris). It was a true blessing to have everyone be a part of Joyce’s life.
