JOYCE LAVERNE CROWELL, affectionately known as Joycie to her family and friends was the oldest daughter born to Margaret and the late Claude Crowell Jr, on October 31, 1955. On October 20, 2021 Our Heavenly Father transformed Joycie Earthly Light into Eternal Life Light.
Joycie was one of God's "Special Little Angels" from birth. Her medical needs moved her from the family home on Hoffman Street at an early age but did not remove her from the family. Every Sunday after church services at Israel Baptist Church, the entire family would pack into the family car, to go enjoy Sunday dinner with Joycie.
Dinner with Joycie would be a bucket of chicken from KFC and Gino's Giants for the grandmothers, siblings, aunts and cousins. Joyce would be happy to see her family but would pock out her lips until she spotted the family member holding, the pink and white bag containing her meal of choice Tutti Frutti Baby Food and a Banana Royale Sundae from Baskin Robbins. Once she located her bag she'd let out the biggest yell and a smile that illuminated the room. The song says "This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine", Joyce was the light for our family.
When her siblings began to have a family of there own Joycie would give each of the nieces and nephews the look over, however, when her nephew Brian was born, a special bond was formed! A lesson of love was shown to him. She learned to say his name and always called him by name. BRIAN!
Joyce entered Eternal Life with her father Claude Crowell, Jr., two brothers Clinton O'Neal, Sr. and Gregory Crowell, grandmothers Eva Crowell and Margaret O'Neal, three aunts Betty O'Neal, Virginia Crowell and Bessie Quickley and two uncles Edward O' Neal and James Parker.
Joyce earthly light will shine brightly through her loving and devoted mother, Margaret Crowell, siblings; Gary O'Neal, Sr. (Patricia), Pamela Crowell, Michael Crowell (Jewell) and Betty Crowell, three aunts Joan D. Nelson (Willie), Rosetta Williams and Euler Diane O'Neal; ten nieces and nephews, sixteen great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, family and friends.
