John Porter Obituary

JOHN ALLEN PORTER, the son of Elijah Porter Sr. and Ruth Porter Wilson was born on November 19, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland. John's spiritual life began at an early age under the late Bishop John Marks Sr. where John was a member of the Greater Zion Apostle Church, where he accepted Jesus as his personal savior. Later in John's life he joined New Life Fellowship Church of Christ under the leadership of Pastor N. Williams Lewis. Early in life John was a introduced to a varity of musical instruments, he chose the drums. At the age of 12, he was the lead singer of the "Mighty Golden Wings" in addition he played drums for the Sensational Bells Of Joy, later on he became the lead singer for the Hard Driving Gospel Leirs. In 1999, John formed a gospel group with cofounder, Horace Miller, which they named the group, "Ministry". John's favorite songs were, "Wake Up-In Glory, Everything Moving By The Power of God, Rock Me In The Cradle of His Arms and On My Way Home"  

John attended Baltimore City Public Scholls and in 1976 he received his High School Diploma from Southwestern High School. John, has always been a man about his money, at the age of 13, he started his first job working at a candy store. When he graduated he was employed with Brightwell Construction Company, from there he pursued his career as a painter working at John Hopkins where he remained until his underlining health conditions prevented him to continue to work John resigned in 2000.

John, enjoyed "SINGING", playing the drums, boxing, horseshoe, shooting pool, and throwing the biggest cookouts. He was a well-known loveable, and helpful person, he was always the life of any social event. He loved telling stories and jokes, but don't get him wrong he would box anyone up if you disrespected him or his family.

John, LOVED his money,  dressing nice, wearing his jewelry, and eating fried chicken. No matter what was going on John Porter made it to church faithfully EVERY Sunday Morning.

Proceeding John in death; his father, Elijah Porter Sr. his mother, Ruth Porter Wilson. His loving Partner, Denise Flowers. Dwight Burgess Sr. Amos Burgess Jr. Bishop Albertus Mark Sr. Viola Mark, Bishop John Mark Sr. Dr. Rosa Burgess; Evangelist Lillie Bell Wetherspoon, Margaret Elliott, and Amanda Horton.    

John leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Myrtle Porter. His children, John Porter Jr. Mynika Porter Flowers and Johnathan Baytop; three step-children, Shantera Flowers, Anthony Coates and Shamear Flowers; Anthony Coates and Shamear Flowers; seven grandchildren, Kiyah, Zyon, Marquise Jr. Ay'Den, Ay'Von, Anthony Jr. Akeno and a newest addition on the way; three brothers, Elijah Porter Jr. james Edward Porter and Abott P. Wilson; five sisters,Leslie Porter Jr., James Edward Porter and abbott P. Wilson; five sisters, Leslie Porter Gathers Apostle, Ernestine Porter Chew, Jamie Scovens, Debbie Wilson, Jessica Wilson and Ingrid Johnson; two aunts, Pastor Azalee Grant and Millie Pretlow; three uncles, Albertus Mark Jr. Samuel Mark of Baltimore and Dr. James (Miriam) Mark of San Antonio Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a very special friend Benita Vanderburgh and his bonus sister Maxine Daniels.
