JoAnn Gilliam, daughter of the late Donald & Jean Garland, was born October 9, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life February 20, 2021. JoAnn confessed to Christ at an early age. She received her education in the Baltimore City public school system.
During her adulthood, JoAnn was employed at several establishments. She worked as a barmaid, where she would talk and entertain guests. JoAnn later worked at Stop, Shop, & Save Supermarkets. Before retiring, her final title as an employee was manager of seafood and deli departments. JoAnn then went on to start her own successful childcare service that was up and running for a few years.
JoAnn boasted about being the best athlete in her family. She was a prolific softball player and spent most of her time as a player with the beloved “Red Wings” softball team.
JoAnn also loved her family and friends, as well as spending time with them. During her unofficial career as a devoted bingo player, she acquired many friends and “bingo family”.
JoAnn leaves to cherish her parents preceding her in death Donald and Jean Garland; her husband of 28 years, Bernard Gilliam; her son Marcus Garland Sr.; two grandsons Marlo and Marcus Jr; granddaughter Ericka; great grandsons Logan and Omari; her siblings preceding her in death Kirk Edwards, Larry Garland, Marion Garland, James Garland, Earl Garland, and Garland; three sister-in-laws Vera Gentry, Sheila Garland, and Mattie Gilliam; one uncle Lewis Allen; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends!
