JANIE STEPHENS, daughter of the late Jessie and Hattie Baylor, was born May 10, 1939 in Greenwood, SC. on Sunday, December 23, 2018, God saw the road was getting rough; the hills were hard to climb. Because he knew how much she could bear, he gently closed her loving eyes and whispered, "Peace be Thine'.
At the tender age of three, Janie relocated to Baltimore, MD. from Greenwood, SC. She received her education from the Baltimore City Public School System; ab alumna of Paul L. Dunbar High School. After 34 years of dedicated service to Good Samaritan Hospital, Janie retired in 2005.
Janie gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of the New Second Missionary Baptist Church. There she met the love of her life, Robert. Later she was called to the ministry and was ordained as Evangelist Janie Stephens. Mother Stephens was a faithful member in church and was about the Lord's work, no matter what.
On April 28, 1956, Janie joined in Holy Matrimony with her childhood sweetheart, the late Robert L. Stephens, Sr. From this union, five children were born.
Mother Janie loved spending quality time with her family. Wearing her favorite color purple, she was a huge fan of the Baltimore Ravens. She also enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles. Additionally, TV game shows were her all time favorite-Price is Right, Let's Make a Deal and Family Feud.
She was preceded in death by her children, Janice and Anthony and husband, Robert.
Mother Janie leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Michele; two sons, Robert, Jr.(Linda) and Darryl (Lakeysha); one brother, James; stepchildren, Kenny and Tammy; two sister-in-laws, Ann Diggs and Cora Cunningham; two brother-in-laws, Joseph Harper and J.W. Stephens; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
