James Goods Obituary

James Freddie Goods was born in Halifax County, Virginia on July 28, 1945 to the late Royster and Vergie Goods. He departed this life and was called home to rest on November 11, 2018.

James married Viola Holmes Goods who preceded him in death.

James (affectionately known as Freddie to all) was the beloved brother of 15 siblings, 12 of whom preceded him in death; Alfonso, Addie, George, ALglen, Hattie Mae Harris, William, Elijah, Fannie Turner, Emma Brandon, John, Joe, and Elmer.

His family moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he received his education with The Baltimore City Public School System. At an early age Freddie was drafted into The United States Marine Corps and throughout his time there he served with pride advancing to the rank of Corporal and  receiving an Honorable Discharge. During his time in the service he met and married Connie (deceased) and from that union came 4 daughters.

After serving in The Marine Corps, Freddie worked for Johns Hopkins Hospital and later went onto purse a career with The City of Baltimore’s Water Waste Management Company until his retirement.

Freddie started out as a member under the fellowship of Mt. Carmel when he was baptized but before his health declined he became a member of Christian Temple Baptist Church. To say Freddie loved his family was an understatement everyone who knew him knew that his 6 daughters was his world. Family gatherings brought him so much joy. He would always show up dressed to a “T”. Freddie had a great appreciation for music so much that you would find him singing Do Whop, Gospel songs, and Oldie but Goodies with his brothers, nieces, and nephews. He would also dance circles around you. It was often said that Freddie was the best to ever do it.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his 6 daughters, Sheri Rose, Shavon, Valencia, Yvette, Taquela, and Shounda Goods, 3 Stepchildren; Nathaniel, Alfonso, Netta, 2 daughter-in-law, Erika and Dorothy Shears, 1 son-in-law George Williams,2 brothers Willie and Harold Goods, 6 sister-in-law Elenora, Phyllis, LouAnn, Sarah, Joyce, Katrina, and Carolyn, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, a devoted nephew Michael Brandon Sr, a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
