Ida Hopkins Obituary

Ida was born on December 1, 1950 in Jamestown, South Carolina to the late Horace Rivers II and the late Marjorie Myers Rivers, both from Jamestown, South Carolina. Ida was the 3rd child of 14. She received Christ at an early age. Ida received her education in Jamestown Grade School. Later her parents moved to Baltimore, MD. There she continued her education in Baltimore public schools. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School as a Candy Stripper Aproned. Ida received a AA Degree in a 2 year college from BCCC and AA in Tailoring.

Ida Hopkins for being an outstanding East Baltimore Community volunteer. Her volunteer service included being a member of the following boards HEBCAC, Collington Square Community Association, Day Spring Transitional Housing Project, and the Middle East Baltimore Truth & Reconciliation Council. In addition, Ms. Hopkins tireless work also included being a Community Navigator for the Men & Family Center, and a member of the East Baltimore Historical Library's Community Action Team and representative in the Henrietta Lacks' Book Club launched by Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Department. Ida volente at Day Spring Head Start and went on several trips. Ida was vice-president PTO at Collington Square Elementary School. Ida worked at Bayview Hospital and several nursing homes. Ida "Lady of several hats" had a beautiful smile that lit up the whole room. She was loved and will always be well known for giving orders, helping people, giving her last to any and every one, sewing, cooking, dancing, watching her favorite shows on TV, baby-sitting, listening to her gospel music, and didn't play about one thing her money. Ida was well known for making & designing clothes, crafting and any type of flowers and flower arrangements. Ida always loved having children, family and friends around having a nice time enjoying their selves.

Three brothers Horace III, Thomas Sr. and Sampson Rivers, four sisters Kathlene Rivers, Catherine Ringgold, Marjorie Rivers and Janie Rivers, one great grandson Jarell Murry Jr., Mom Marjorie and Dad Horace Rivers II all preceded her in death.  

She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters Shelanda Rivers and Demetria Paige; 1 goddaughter Zenaide Chambers; 4 granddaughters, Tanika Tillery, Tasia Rooks, Tykirra Bradley and Brionna Wilson; I grandson, Antwon Rooks Jr.; 5 great granddaughters, Jara Ford, Ty'Asia and Ny'Asia Young, Brielle Murry and Adriane Rooks; 3 great grandsons, Taiyon Carter, Alex Seummalavanh and Ashtin Rooks; 3 sisters, Frances, Irene and Beatrice Rivers; 3 brothers Nathan, Clement and Jasper Rivers all of Baltimore, MD.; 1 brother-in-law George Jones Sr.; 1 sister-in-law, Tonya Rivers; 5 aunts LuLa Wilson, Dee Simmons, Jackie Myers and Vivian Wilson all of South Carolina, Lizzie Myers of Baltimore, Md. and Lisa Harris of Brooklyn, NY.; 1 granddaughter-in-law Dominique Bradley; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
