GORDON LAWRENCE HUGHES, son of Emma Spencer Hughes and the late Robert Hughes was born on February 25, 1947, in Baltimore Maryland. Very peacefully, and quietly on August 23, 2020, the almighty Father, in his infinite wisdom gently closed his eyes and he entered into his eternal rest.
Gordon was the oldest son of four children. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. Also a friend to many.
Gordon attended Baltimore City Public Schools. After leaving school, he enlisted into the United States Army where he served in Vietnam during his tenure. He began in the work force at an early age. After exploring different careers, he retired from Alban Tractor Company, Inc. as a Purchasing Agent.
Gordon's faith was an important part of his life. He enjoyed learning new things on his own. He was a generous gentle giant that never wanted anything in return. He blessed people anonymously. Gordon loved people and possessed the capacity to interact with people of all backgrounds regardless of age, gender, or faith. When he made his wellness calls, his favorite quote was "Another Day in Paradise". His encouragement to others was selfless. He had a zest for life, learning and cooking. Gordon was the voice of reason in the family. In his spare time, he read many books.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Daisy Hughes to whom he was married for 32 years, three sons, Timothy Hughes (late), Rodney Bennett and Tyrone Bennett (Aisa Bennett), one daughter, Donna Williams, two brothers, Eric M. Hughes and Robert West (late), two sisters, Jean Elsey (Randolph Elsey) and Vanessa Hughes, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
Recognition and gratitude is expressed to special caregivers Donna Williams, Seasons Hospice, Veterans Administration, and Good Samaritan ICU for their enduring love, support and beside services.
