On February 22, 2019 “God” called a wonderful man home for his eternal rest. George Baker Bey was born on June 29th, 1928 in O’Brien Florida. He was the son of the late Theodore Preston and Estele Nivens.
George received his formal education in the Florida public schools. After graduation he moved to Virginia to be with other family members, there he met and married Lessie Mae Yates in 1946. In 1948 both he and Lessia moved to Baltimore Maryland where they began their life together and started a family.
In 1950 he was enlisted into the U.S. army and was stationed in Fort Belvoir Virgiana. He did two tours of duty in Korea and then retired from the military in 1957. He went on to become a heavy equipment operator. He later retired from that position in 1992.
The family called Lessie Mae and George “Dodie and Dad Doc”
George was preceded in death by his brother Levis Gardner and his mother Estelle Nivens.
He is in remembrance by his loving wife of “72” years. Lessie Mae, his daughter Joyce Johnson, son in-law (Clarence), 2 grandsons Clarence D. Johnson (Quiana) Randy Johnson (Monique) ,7 great grandchildren Darius, Kiya, Rashad, Quion, Malik, Myonna, and Ma’kai and a host of other family and friends also, a very wonderful and loving friend and Pastor Rev. Donald Palmore from the New Good Samaritan Baptist Church.
