Known affectionately by many names, "Father Eric" by his family, "Popcorn" by his friends, "Pops" by his adopted sons, and "The Governor" by his classmates. Since childhood, Eric was dedicated to hard work. He often shared stories of helping his mother support the family by working in the neighborhood corner store. Eric attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated with his high school diploma from Dunbar High School in 1978, where he proudly remained an alumnus.

After graduating high school, Eric's first job was with McDonald's until joining John Hopkins Bayview, where he initially worked as a kitchen staffer. He later became an Operation Room technician and was eventually promoted to Supervisor for the OR Tech Department of Bayview Hospital. Eric dedicated many years of service to Bayview Hospital and was beloved by his coworkers. In 2009, he received the Martin Luther King Jr., award for Community Service. Following his time at Bayview, Eric co-founded a family cleaning business called "Ausby1 LLC" with his daughter Erica, while also working PRP for King Health Systems.

Eric had a passion for giving back to his community and mentoring young and old men. During his spare time, he found joy in feeding the homeless and volunteering at the Helping Up Mission. Alongside his friends Rudy and Michael Holley, Eric founded an organization called "ROOTS" (Reach Out Only to Serve), which aimed to assist individuals in the community through various programs. Additionally, Eric and his wife Danita welcomed many young men into their home, embodying their commitment to helping others. Eric took price in speaking up for his community, he had the voice of a lion, but a heart as good as Gold.

He was an active member of the New Psalmist Baptist Church and later joined the United Baptist Church in 2004 under the leadership of Dr. Carl J. Solomon. Eric was engaged in various ministries, including the Men's Choir, Music Ministry, and Men's Ministry. He loved studying the Word of God and listening to gospel music, often expressing his enthusiasm with shouts of "J-E-S-U-S" during services. In 2010, Eric was ordained as a Deacon.
