On July 10, 2020, Ellen Marie Wilson passed away at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Though she spent her last two years on earth fighting several illnesses, she did so with grace, positivity and, as the nurses caring for her would note, “relentless kindness.”
Ellen was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 27, 1962 to Harry Wilson Jr. and Vernice Colton. She spent much of her childhood attending church with her beloved grandmother and great-aunts Marzella Colton, Ellen Williams and Edna Phillips, taking trips to Virginia and New York to spend time with her favorite cousins Claudine Brown and Terrence Thompson, and doing anything and everything fun with her best friend in the world Wanda Cannon. She graduated from Western High School, where she impressed her teachers with her academic prowess, all while becoming a caretaker to her ailing aunts.
In 1977, she met David Johnson, the man with whom she would spend her life. They had four cherished daughters: Nicole (Johnson) Outlaw, twins Stacey and Tracey Johnson and Candis Johnson. She filled their lives with stern but caring lessons, bright laughter, warm holiday traditions, and an unending appreciation for the bond between family.
Ellen will be tremendously missed by her husband, daughters, son-in-law Steven Outlaw, grandsons Kenneth and Timothy Outlaw, grandcats Prince and Jamie, and a host of friends, cousins and sisters- and brother-in law. They will carry on her legacy of facing the world with grace, positivity and kindness -- relentlessly.
