Edgar Green Sr Obituary

EDGAR CLARENCE GREEN, first born son of the late Henry and Herlease McConnell Green was born December 27, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. After a brief illness he peacefully passed from labor to reward on Saturday, October 31, 2020 surrounded by his family.

"Booker," as he was affectionately known, was a husband, father, brother, provider, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, godfather, uncle, friend and handiworker. He meant so much to so many people. He was funny, kind, clever, patient, calm, pleasant, diligent, helpful, resourceful, generous, passionate and humble.

He was raised in historic East Baltimore and attended Baltimore City Public Schools. He later began his employment at Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Sparrows Point, MD in 1947 and remained there for 44 years until his retirement. After retirement Edgar was a dedicated member of the Bethlehem Steel Employees Retirement Association.

He was an outgoing child who was a true "big brother" to his seven youger siblings. He was known for choosing nicknames for everyone in the neighborhood. For years, his family resided at 1602 E. Miller Street which was a single block of neighbors who became family. He formed many lasting friendships during these early years. While just a young man, Edgar met the girl who would capture his heart and become his life partner, the former Claretta B. Alston whom he affectionately called "Moochie". Their love for one another blossomed quickly and they were united in Holy Matrimony on May 26, 1949. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that this couple loved each other. They shone brightly as a couple and served as the ideal model of marriage. Their marriage endured for over 66 years and she lovingly called him "Poppy". Rarely, did you see her without him by her side.

From this union, three children were born, two sons: Edgar Jr. and Lamont along with a daughter, Angela. These three were raised in a Christian home by their devoted parents. Booker's innate love for people made it easy for him to be a loyal husband, nurturing father, brother, doting grandfather, fun uncle and friend. Booker loved his extended family dearly and cared for them as well as his own wife and children. Whenever there was any kind of celebration for a family member, Sug, as he was sometimes called, was always there, weddings, births, baptisms, graduations, retirements, birthdays and the list continues. if a family member became ill, who was the first to come or call? Sug. He was as dutiful to Claretta's family as he was to his own. If there was a matter that pertained to a family member, he ensured that the entire family was made aware. Just a week ago, he touted how blessed he have five generations to carry on his legacy.

He was brought to Faith Baptist Church by his parents as a young boy and attended Sunday School. He formed many lasting lifetime friendships under the pastorate of the late Rev. Simon Williamson. Watching his wife's Christian example that she consistently displayed in their home, led him to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He was later baptized by Rev. Dr. Walter E. Paige. Poppy said it was divine that God blessed him with such a treasure of a wife. His personal relationship with Christ made the difference.

To carry on his legacy he leaves two devoted sons Edgar, Jr. (Nancy) and Lamont Green, one daughter Angela Saunders; grandchildren; Truemenda Green, Robert Taylor, III, Kendall Green-Faes (Julien), Wendy Washington and Rachelle McNeill; great-grandchildren, Shabrea Taylor, Tanika Taylor, Maya Bell, Na'Kiyah Campbell and Juliana Faes; one geat great- grandson, Daylen Best; three sisters, Ida Mae Green, Jamelah Qadir aka Pearl and Edna Wilson; a devoted brother-in-love, Joseph Earl Alston; three sisters-in-love, Gertrude Lewis, Adele Israel and Josephine Alston; one God-daughter, Karol E. Alston; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
