DOUGLAS L. CARTER, SR. affectionally known as "Doug or Dougie" was born February 19, 1952, to the late Lee and Mary Carter. Douglas was the eleventh of 12 siblings. Nine of them preceded him in death, (2) died at infancy, Annie Mae Crawford, Wendell, Alfred Sr., Otha Hooper, Lee, Melvin, Zeke Carter.
Douglas was educated in the Baltimore City School System. He attended Dunbar Senior High his last school. Douglas played football with his brother. They were known as the Carter Brothers, Big brother on Defense and little brother on offense. They were a power duo. Doug went to the 12th grade, but he dropped out the last year. He later received his GED to complete his schooling accomplishment.
Douglas worked for the Baltimore City School System as a custodian at Furman L. Templeton Elementary until retirement.
Douglas married the late Joann Jones; from this union Jamonie and Douglas Jr. were born. Due to the untimely passing of Joann when their children were young, her parents raised them. Years later cupid,s arrow struck his heart again, in June 1985 he joined in holy matrimony to Hazeline Brown. This union lasted until their separation in 2002. Although divorced they maintained a friendship.
His hunger for the Lord led him to Fellowship with several churches throughout his life. The Israel Baptist Church, Knox Presbyterian and lastly Wayland Baptist Church. He loved his new Pastor. He spoke very highly of Pastor Young. He was amazed that he was so young and could preach so profoundly. Without doubt, you always knew when he was present. He was the Pastor's cheering squad all by himself.
Douglas was a fun-loving free spirited guy. He never let anyone steal his joy. Even when he was being scolded by siblings, he took it with a smile, and replied "you're right, I need to do better." Douglas loved family gatherings, he really loved being with his siblings and nieces and nephews. That just did his heart good. Douglas was an avid sports lover. He loved talking about the games with his siblings and nephews.
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 3:55pm, God saw it was time to bring Douglas home. Douglas leaves to cherish his memories, his two children, Jamonie and Douglas Jr.; two grandchildren, Cyrasma, Morgan Carter; one brother, Wycal (Romey); one sister, Daisy Jackson; two sister-in-laws; Sonia and Cynthia Carter; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Also his newly adopted family, Wayland Village, his prayer partners Anita Nelson and Dorothy Cross-Nunn.
