Cynthia Harvey Obituary

Cynthia Diane “Jack” Harvey (Jones) died peacefully at home on August 7, 2018 in Essex, Md at the age of 63.

Diane is survived by her mother, Sadie Pearson of Baltimore, Md; children, David Smith, Zachary Dixon, and Damon Byrd of Baltimore, MD; stepchildren Kia Harvey, Kellie Harvey, Dereka Harvey, Robin Harvey, and Derek Harvey Jr. of Baltimore; and siblings Jeffrey Jones and Kantina Cherry of Baltimore. As well as 19 grandchildren, and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, daughter in laws, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father Vernell Jones of Brunswick County, Va; husband, Derek Harvey Sr. of Baltimore, MD and son Dante Smith of Baltimore, MD.

Diane was born on March 11, 1955 in Gholsonville, Brunswick County, Virginia to Sadie Dee Bright and Vernell Jones. In 1957, Sadie and Vernell moved to Baltimore, MD where Diane attended Baltimore City public schools. Diane graduated from Baltimore City Community College with an Associate’s degree in Arts. She continued her education pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and also went on to become certified in Medical Billing and Coding. In 1998, she met her loving husband Derek Harvey and they were married October 19, 2001. They enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City for weekends and helping those around them in times of need. In 2014, Derek Harvey Sr. passed away and Diane fell into a state of depression and never really got out of it. Prior to her passing she worked side by side with her brother Jeff as entrepreneurs.

Diane was an avid reader but, the main things she was known to be was the strength and guiding light for those around her. She always had an open ear and words of wisdom for anyone seeking counsel. Her words could be sweet, enlightening, motivating, or stern. Whatever the situation called for but she always meant what she said from the bottom of her heart and offered no apologies. She loved being surrounded by her family to enjoy music, laughter, and dancing. She brought light and strength to everyone around her and now we must learn how to be strong for and without her. Just know that if there’s any love or wisdom you received in knowing her, she would want you to share it with someone who needs it.
