Cleo MacKenney

1931 ~ 2022 (age 90)

Obituary

Cleo Mac Kenney was one of five children born to the late Magnolia Anthony Hamlin Brown and James Hamlin in Smithfield, Virginia on April 12, 1931. She peacefully departed this life at her home and entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Cleo received her education in the Baltimore City School system graduating from Paul Dunbar Senior High School. She met and married her late husband Joseph Lawrence Mac Kenney on June 22, 1956 and from this union were six children. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior early in her life and remained faithful to serving Christ. Early on she was a member of New Zion Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the missionary board and on the choir for many years with her husband. She later joined the Ministries of Jesus Christ Church and served as the Chairwoman of the Deaconess Board, and on the missionary ministry until God called her from labor to reward.

Proverbs 31:10 “Who can find a virtuous woman”? For her price is far above rubies. How do I describe her? She was heavenly, a gift sent by God. Cleo was a gentle, meek, kind, compassionate, humble peaceful, devoted, dedicated, and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She committed her life to her Savior Jesus Christ and to her family. She loved reading the bible, writing, singing hymns, cooking, having family gatherings and sharing the love of God with others. Cleo was a woman of great strength, grace, unshakeable faith and a rock to her family. Her voice, her presence and powerful spirit will be missed for years to come. In her final days she would call on the name of Jesus waiting for Him to come for her. She has left a legacy of love to her children and grandchildren. Mom was a woman of God with a passion and fire for the Lord. She was a prayer warrior and believed there was nothing impossible with God. Mom gone from our sight but never from our hearts-rest in peace Mama we love you.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory: three daughters, Nancy A. Mac Kenney, Janice L. Brinkley, Cleo Mac Kenney-Bennett, (one daughter preceded her in death Debbie C. Scott); one son, Thomas L. Mac Kenney, (one son preceded her in death Joseph R. Mac Kenney); two sons-in-law's, Gregory A. Brinkley and Bobby J. Bennett; one daughter-in-law, Sherrie Mac Kenney and (one daughter-in-law preceding her in death Tracey A. Mac Kenney); a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, (one preceding her in death Thomas L. Mac Kenney); one sister, Jean Lecato, (three siblings who preceded her in death Dorothy Morton, Sylvia Eley and one brother George Hamlin). She also leaves to cherish her memory one devoted cousin Little Ethel, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends
