Carolyn Brewer Obituary

Carolyn Juanita Brewer, born November 12, 1942 to the late Harvey and Edna Henson, Jr., and raised by her grandparents Harvey and Norene Henson, Sr. was gracefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 19, 2020.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized in Memorial Baptist Church on Easter Sunday morning, April 21, 1957 by Rev. Angus A. Smith.

Carolyn was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School at the age of sixteen, in the Class of June 1959. She was a proud and dedicated member of her class and participated on the committee that organized and managed various class events. Carolyn also attended Morgan State College. She took pride in intellect – reading books, watching mystery shows, completing crossword puzzles and brain teasers were her favorite hobbies. She loved to feed the mind and challenge the brain. A woman with knowledge and wisdom.

Her first place of employment was Union Memorial Hospital, which she left to pursue a career with the U. S. Postal Service. She was an outstanding clerk during her time of service. She retired early for medical reasons.

Carolyn met and married the love of her life, Rudolph Brewer, who preceded her in death. They had two loving daughters, Shaun and Rosalind, who also preceded her in death. Carolyn was a beloved and devoted grandmother. Her grandchildren lovingly called her “Granny”. There was no limit to the extent she would go to protect and care for her family. Family was very important to her. She wanted to bring everybody together often showing it through her words and actions. “Hey, So and So, this is your cousin So and So”, was one way she kept family going. In need of a helping hand, you could definitely depend on her. A true friend indeed. She was full of “Style and Grace”, a Diva in her time. Dressing for family events, a party or celebration of any kind, she was ready. The life of the party for sure. To know her was to love her. Everybody that knew her has a memory of her.

Preceding her in death were two siblings, Clarice McGowan, and Edgar Henson.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren Cedric Fair, Cedtrice Fair, Cean Fair, Brittany Howard and Alex Howard; five great granddaughters, Tyla, Ce’harra, Charm, Caylynn, Brittian; three great grandsons Jaylen Fair, Jaylen Prince and Asonté; four sisters Beverly Lewis, Diana Henson, Joann Henson and Stephanie Brinkley; one brother Harvey Harold Henson; one sister-in-law Beverly Henson; two aunts, Delores Bell and Sarah Bell; two kindred sisters Phyllis Fitzgerald and Doris Conner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
