Berkley Lewis Knight Sr.

September 29, 1944 ~ December 29, 2021 (age 77)

BERKLEY LEWIS KNIGHT, Sr. the third eldest child of Russell and Catherine Knight, was born on September 29,1944, in Baltimore,
Maryland and died suddenly on December 29, 2021.

Lew, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the Baltimore Public School System, graduating from City College. He accepted
Christ at the age of 10 yrs. old at the Grace Memorial Baptist Church under Rev. Eugene Grove, Sr. There he sang in the children’s Choir
and the Young Adult Choir. As his love for music and singing evolved, Lew joined the Baltimore Singers and the Great Hymns
Choir traveling the diaspora ministering the gospel in song. His educational studies took him to Morgan State College where he
joined the ROTC which led him to enlist in the United States Air Force where he honorably served his country from 1966 to 1970.
After being discharged, he enlisted in the US Air Force Reserve and retired after 30 years of service.  At the same time, Lewis was
gainfully employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring after 30 years.

This earned him the nickname “Mailman” by those on his mail routes. His spiritual journey continued when he became a disciple
of Zion Baptist Church under Rev. Marshall F. Prentice where he was a member of the Sunday School Class #1, The Wednesday Daytime
Bible Study Class, and the Male Chorus until his health began to fail. In 1970, Lewis married the love of his life, Carrie Stewart Knight.
This union lasted thirty-nine years until God called Carrie home. Lew loved his family, enjoyed all genres of music, singing, and
watching old movies, particularly the Westerns.

He leaves to celebrate his life: his loving daughter, Karen Jackson (Charles); and son, Berkley Lewis Knight, Jr.; His grandchildren,
Kendra Jones (Joshua), and Carrie Knight; His great grandson, Kingston Jones; siblings, Rev. Harold L. Knight (Adrian), Carolyn
Solomon (Robert), Carroll Knight, and Sharon K. Hopkins (James); sisters-in-law, Beth Knight, Sylvia Stewart Powell (Barry), Christine
Steward, Ellen Stewart, Doris Stewart, and Maddie Stewart; brothers in-law, James Hopkins, Purnell Stewart, Robert Stewart, George
Stewart, and Barry W. Powell along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
