ARSONIA DEGRAFFENRIED, affectionately known as "Mama Sonia", departed this life on June 17, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 30, 1949 in Baltimore, MD to Beatrice and Willie DeGraffenreid of Chester, NC.
Sonia accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a faithful servant of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Denomination. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, and was later employed as an Administrative Clerk by the Department of Social Services and the Social Security Administration.
Sonia was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister and a truly genuine friend to all. Her beautiful smile, contagious spirit and welcoming presence touched all who knew or encountererd her. She had a big heart and was very loving, caring and compassionate. Sonia had a generous soul and was always willing to help those in need. She had a love for fashion, dancing, card playing and the lottery. She would effortlessly walk endless miles until illness slowed he down. She fought a courageous battle until God called her home.
Sonia was preceded in death by both parents, Beatrice and Willie DeGraffenried; daughter, Benita Whitener; eldest brothers, James R., Willie E., and Howard DeGraffenreid; and niece and nephew, Kim Powell and Edwin Boyd;
Sonia leaves to cherish precious memories loving daughters, Arnedia Whitener and Chenita Daniels; son, Leonard Couplin, Jr.;grandchildren, LaToya Peoples, Rodney Henley, Jr., Charlie Gilliam, Kay'Neshia Grayson Azariya, Ari'yan and Andre Dixon, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kavon Lomax, Tre' and Lyric Henley; devoted sister, O'Dessa Crump; nephews, Derwin and Ronald Boyd, Sr., Torrance Gatling, Ricky and Tommyu DeGraffenreid, numerous other relatives and friends and her significant other, Robert Floyd.
Sonia was loved dearly and will be sorely missed.
