Alvin Allen Sr.

Alvin Allen, Sr. was born December 31, 1958, to the late Blanche L. Allen and Moses Allen, Jr. in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life quietly on January 15, 2022.

Alvin, who was affectionately known as “Al” or “Stone”, received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System and was a proud graduate of Lake Clifton High School, class of 1976. Being a “Jack of all trades”, he utilized his skills for many companies. He worked as a Master Welder for Whiting and Turner, hung wallpaper for Papers International, painted for multiple Friendly’s Franchises all over Baltimore, did lawn care for Valley View Gardens, and auto detailing for BMW. In his final years, he worked as a foreman for Building Maintenance Service, LLC. He and his boss, Mr. Pete became close friends and Mr. Pete would often say, “I love him like a brother”; without a doubt, the feeling was mutual.

In 1979 Alvin met a beautiful soul named Nina McClendon. Their love story lasted for over 30 years and from their union two sons were born, Alvin, Jr., and Cordero Allen. There is no denying that Alvin and Nina raised two amazing children and remained devoted to the love they had for their sons. They remained close friends, with Nina being by his side until his last days.

Stone had many talents and even starred in a short film called Thick as Thieves in 2018. On August 9, 2018, that film premiered at the Horizon Cinemas at the Beltway Plaza. You couldn’t tell him he wasn’t a star! He also entered into the neighborhood Horseshoe Tournament with his youngest son Cordero; although they came in as 2nd place winners, it’s still suspected that they were cheated out of the 1st place prize since everyone knew that Stone was a Horseshoe legend.

Alvin loved singing, dancing, and all things music. He even strummed on a guitar at night as if he actually knew what he was doing. Al was a true family man and especially loved his grands whom he always spoke very highly of. He showed that same kind of love to all his family and friends; he was just that kind of man. Loving, caring, and very protective, he wouldn’t let a soul play with him or anyone he loved.

Alvin was given the nickname “Stone” by his childhood friend Robert Poole. Rudolph (Twin), Stone, and Rob were like the three musketeers, if you saw one you saw the other; they were inseparable. Alvin was always the life of the party and was sure to make you laugh. If he wasn't telling a story or a joke, he was definitely somewhere talking trash. But what Stone was known for most of all was his unique raspy voice. There isn't one person who knew him who didn’t attempt to mimic his distinct voice at least once! His voice and humorous ways were one of a kind.

To know Alvin was to love him, but don’t ever get into an argument or debate with him. There was simply no winning because he was always going to get the last word. But, no matter what, he would always smooth things over. He was such an emotional creature; if the right song was playing, the tears would start flowing like water. Al’s heart was made of gold and if you needed him, he would be there. The love he had flowed like his tears, like a river. His big heart and loving spirit made him a true father figure to his own sons and even to some who weren’t. He was known all throughout Baltimore especially zone 18 and will forever be remembered as one of its Legends.

Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved parents Blanche and Moses Allen, his brother Reginald Allen, nephews Steven Allen, Jr. and Renardo Allen, brother-in-law, Richard Carter, Sr. and sister in-law, Patricia Allen.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Alvin, Jr. (devoted companion Iretha) and Cordero Allen (wife Tamara); three grandsons, Alvin III, Cordero Jr., and Crosz Allen; two honorary grandchildren, Porshe’ Thomas and Tyler Fulton; three brothers, James Allen, Sr., Daniel Allen Sr., and Steven Allen Sr. (wife Michelle); two sisters, Deborah Carter and Colleen Allen; one sister in-law, Lillian Allen; nieces and nephews, Takisha Carter, Richard Carter, Jr., Ashley Carter, Maurice Venable, Jasmine Allen, James Allen, Jr., Reginald Allen, Jr., Daniel Allen, Jr., Lakia Allen, Dalyn Allen, Laqia Armstead, Kendra Allen, Brea Allen, Brenda Allen, Maurice Jackson, Jr. (honorary son) and McKinley Turner (honorary daughter), Sean, Troy, and Toya Hewlett; one godson, Daquan Pollard; devoted friend, Nina Allen, and a host of aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
