YOLANDA WHITENER, affectionately known as "Yan" was the daughter of Carolyn Whitener and the late Melton Whitener Sr. She was born on April 12, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. After a short illness, God decided to call his angel home on December 11, 2016.

Yolanda received her education at Dunbar High School in Baltimore. Soon after graduation, Yolanda began working for the Baltimore School System. There she enjoyed working with the head start program and making a difference in many lives. After a while she decided to venture off to a new career then start working with John Hopkins Hospital for about five years.

Yolanda was baptized at an early age at Faith Baptist Church. In 2013 she became a member of the Blessed Baptist Church of God under the leadership of Reverend James Garrett. While worshiping here she attended Bible Study, Sunday School and Sunday morning service faithfully.

During her free time you could find Yolanda at Lexington Market on Saturdays; dancing and having a great time with the band. You could always spot her by her red outfits she loved to wear and the beautiful smile that brightened up any room. Yan also enjoyed walking the track each day, playing basketball with her kids and spending time with her grandchildren.

Proceeding her in death is her father Melton Sr., grandmother Lorrain Chapman, grandfather, Edward Chapman, two brothers, Maurice Chapman and Melton Jr., aunt Florence and an uncle Cato.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother Carolyn; two children Tarae Whitener and Tierra West; six grandchildren Ty'Uan, Ta'Ray, Tamiyah, Taliyah, Ty'Jae and Tarae Jr.; two sisters, Evania and Lynell; four aunts, two uncles, five nieces, two nephews a special friend Maurice and a host of cousins, family and friends. Yolanda will be truly missed by all.
