YOLANDA LAVERN CARTER JAMES was born on September 13, 1958. She departed this life on February 25, 2022 after a brief illness. She was the last babygirl born to the late Doris and Eli Carter.
Affectionately known as "Yodie" she was educated in the Baltimore City School System and graduated rom Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School as a "Dunbar Poet" in 1977, which she represented so well!!!
After graduating she was employed with the federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and hen became a Baltimore City School Bus Driver. Following that Yodie became employed with MTA and remained with them until her recent retirement in 2020.
In 1988 Yodie married James, Jr. and from that union Marion Rick James and Shatia "Muffin" James were born.
Yodie loved to do so many things, but her two greatest loves were baking and her grandchildren. You can bet at and family of friends gatherings those "Yodie's Goodies" were going to be there for your enjoyment. And she never missed her grandson Natory's football game or missed any opportunity to spend girl time with her granddaughter Khloe, Kaiya and Karter, who always tried to leave with her no matter where she showed up. And her grandson Chaz with game night and rolling skating.
Once retiring Yodie stared traveling and oh what a time she had. Yodie was a lover of life. She loved a good party especially around her family and close friends. When she's around you can be sure to get a hug, a real laugh and as she would say "her crooked smile". We can here her saying it now "Don't nobody loves you like I do" and in times you may be down she would tell you to put on your big boy or big girl bloomers. She will be terribly missed.
Preceding her in death are her parents Doris and Eli Carter and her oldest sister Cynthia Carter.
Yodie leaves to cherish her memory: two children: Marion Rick (Felice) James, Shatia James (Demetrius Paul); three sisters; Bertha "Bert" Moore, Nonie Matthews, Francine (Johnnie) Allender; one brother; Brandon Carter; six grandchildren; Natory, Khloe, Kaiya, Karter, Chaz and Demetrius, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews and loads of friends who loved her deeply.
