WILLIE BERRY REASE, son of the late Alimae Wright and Berry Rease, was born on December 28, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama. Willie was the youngest of seven children, who all preceded him in death.
Willie received his formal education in the public school system of Pineapple, Alabama, while living with his uncle, Ell Carter. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a true believer in the living word of the Lord. He was drafted in the United States Army at the age of 23 where he served in World War II. Following his Honorable Military Discharge in 1946, Willie relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where he did various jobs until becoming a construction laborer for several companies, which included Bethlehem Steel(Sparrows Point) and Consolidated Engineer Local 194. He was a hard worker who supported his family. He was very proud of the work he performed and took pride in the fact that many of the buildings located in downtown Baltimore he helped to build.
In November 1955, Willie met Cleo Bernadine Davis-lovingly known to him as 'Berna'. They were joined in Holy Matrimony in July 1956, and from this union they were blessed with three children, Cheryl, Alice and Otis. He was a devoted family man who always led his family and friends in prayer during family gatherings. The Lord's Prayer was his favorite, which he often would recite.
Willie, also known to many as 'Mr. Bill', was well liked in the neighborhood. Some even referred to him as the 'Governor' because he would always watch over and supervise the neighborhood. After becoming disabled early in his career, he found joy in transporting family, friends and acquaintances in his spare time. He was always willing to help people reach their destination and they would call on him at any time-day or night. He also enjoyed transporting his grandchildren, Jaron, Otis Jr., Michael and Nicole to school and their various activities. In his leisure time, he was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Berna; two daughters, Cheryl Renee Rease and Alice Raynel Rease Pitter, one son, Otis Jaran Rease Sr., a son in law, Michael Anthony Pitter; beloved grandchildren, Jaron Everett Taylor, Otis Jaran Rease, Jr., Michael William Pitter, Nicole Joyce Rease and Marlon Anthony Pitter; a great-grandson, Marlon(fondly known as M.J.); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. he especially held a fond place in his heart for a dear family friend, Nehemiah Gowens, who was like a son to him and last but not least, the extended family of the 1400 block of Milton Avenue.
