Listen to Obituary

William Harvey, Jr., son of the late William Sr. and Minnie Harvey, was born on September 23, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland.  GOD called him home to rest on September 22, 2019 after many years of health challenges.

He attended Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland.  At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1952 - 1956.  After honorably serving his country, he was employed by Patapsco and Back Rivers Railroad at Sparrows Point and retired after 38 years of dedicated service.  He was a track foreman and union representative, and passionately advocated for his men.

Harvey was an active member of St. Philip's Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Lutheran Men in Mission.  He loved his church family, and they loved the "candy man" as they fondly called him. Prior to his illness, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved to garden.  He enjoyed watching westerns, sports, a soap opera (The Bold and the Beautiful) and listening to baseball games on the radio.

He met and married the former Yvonne Dean, after a bet with a co-worker that he could not get her to go on a date with him.  From this union, four children were born, Arvis, Steven, Soraya and Rainier Sr.  He was the best provider, a great father, and he adored his grandchildren.

Harvey made friends wherever he went.  Because of his great sense of humor and quick wit, everyone he met was crazy about him.  He was so respected by his neighbors that they affectionately called him "the Mayor of Linwood Avenue".

He leaves to mourn: his devoted wife of 65 years Yvonne Dean Harvey, daughter Soraya Harvey, three sons Arvis Harvey, Steven Harvey and Rainier (Robin) Harvey; eight grandchildren (Avery his first grandchild preceded him to glory), 17 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild,  three sisters, two brothers, a sister-in-law, an uncle, an aunt and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
