Listen to Obituary

Wilbert “Buck” Thorne, beloved son of the late Howard and Emma Thorne, was born on May 21, 1944, in Littleton, North Carolina. The Almighty God in his infinite wisdom called Buck into eternal rest on June 6, 2024. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Wilma, who passed away at the early age of two.

During his childhood, Buck was introduced to his Lord and Savior and became a member of Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. He graduated from McIver High School in 1964, where he enjoyed driving the school bus, sparking a lifelong passion for driving all kinds of motor vehicles.

After graduation, Buck moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to join his older siblings. Although Buck worked various jobs, he later returned to his first true love: truck driving, as he was well-versed in the back roads across the East Coast.

Many years later, Buck transitioned to working at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with his cousin Willie "Boots" Pullen, helping to manage the church's fleet of charter buses. He took great pride in maintaining the buses and eventually became a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Clifford Johnson.

Known for his ever-present smile and fond memories of the past, Buck enjoyed life to the fullest. Family was always his greatest love, and he was the life of every family gathering. During his later years, when his health began to decline, his sister Brenda lovingly stepped in to assist with his daily needs and remained by his side till his last days.

Preceding him in death were his sisters, Sallie Ann, Jannet, and Wilma; his brothers, Howard “Coot” and his brothers-in-law, Walter “Curley” and Herman; and his nephew, Howard “Tim”.

Buck leaves to cherish his (Sister) Brenda Gadson, (Sister-in-law) Mildred Thorne, Only living Aunt, Pearlene Thorne, (Nephews) Gregory Vinson and Calvin Thorne, (Niece) Teffina “Tess” Walker, (Great Nieces) Latoya, Kharisma, and Micaia, (Great Nephews) Howard Jr, Corey and Dominque. And a host of many family members and friends made throughout his life.
