Virginia D. Lee

VIRGINIA DARE JOHNSON LEE, was born December 23, 1922 in Beaverdam, Virginia to Lillian and Howard Johnson. On September 9, 2015, God saw that the road was getting rough and because he knew how much she could bear, he gently closed her loving eyes and whispered 'Peace be Thine'.

At an early age, Virginia was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church in Montpelier, Virginia. She attended Bethany Baptist Public School. After the family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, she moved her membership to Fountain Baptist Church where she sang on the Senior Choir. Later, she joined Northeast Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dennis Barrow. She also frequently visited the Episcopal Church of Holy Covenant with her son, Jason.

On August 10, 1947, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Herbert Cobbs Lee, Sr. From this union they had 5 children, Ella Jean, Herbert Jr., Charles, Darnell and Jason Lee. Virginia was a very dedicated mother and wife, and was a homemaker who volunteered in Baltimore City Schools. She later established her career as a substitute teacher in various area schools.

Virginia loved to watch baseball, especially the Baltimore Orioles with her late son-in-law, Will. She spent much of her time cooking and baking-everyone loved her homemade rolls and pound cakes. She was also an avid knitter and seamstress. She would often be found playing hymns on her piano or reading a good novel if not watching her soaps. She enjoyed being around friends and family especially her grandchildren. She was fortunate to have gathered all her grandchildren at her bedside where she was able to express her love to them in her final days.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Herbert C. Lee Sr., sisters, Alice Ray and Eunice Robinson and grandson, Dwayne Reed. Virginia leaves to cherish her memories her beloved children, Ella Jean Adams, Herbert C. Lee Jr., Charles lee, Darnell Lee and Jason Lee; daughter-in-laws, Enid, Vanessa, Darlene and her beloved Carol; grandchildren, Brian, Jan, Herbert III, Charles, Brandy, Tamara, Nikki, Lynelle, Tori, Jason Jr., Joseph and Joshua, beloved, Debbie Coates and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
