Virginia Braxton

MOTHER VIRGINIA BRAXTON, was born on March 20, 1941 in Georgetown, South Carolina to the late Hanna Jane and Isaac Williams. She came from a family of twelve brothers and sisters of whom she was next to the youngest. She departed this life on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 after a brief illness.

She had a soft spoken, unique and gentle laughter that filled a room and when she spoke, everyone listened. She was a faithful woman of God and always had a kind and encouraging word for others.

Virginia was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and she attended Choppee High School in Georgetown, South Carolina. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1950 to live with her oldest sister, Bertha. Being home-sick, she journeyed back to South Carolina and later decided to return to Baltimore where she would reside and begin her new life as a Baltimorean.

She met the love of her life, Earl Braxton, in 1961, whom she will join in paradise. She was a loyal and devoted wife and a caring mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Me-Me-, Dee-Dee, Ginny-Pooh and Grannie Virginia. She ;oved her family with unconditional love. Virginia was employed at Little Sister of the Poor and later at the Date Laundry.

Virginia joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in the 1960's where she remained as a devoted member. She later joined the Senior Choir and was a committed and active member of the Pastor's Aide and Mother of the Church until her passing. Her voice echoed the cords to "New Buryin Grounds" as she led the choir while the church was clapping and shouting for joy. She was one of the original members of Eddie Williams and the Family Connection.

Her favorite color was royal blue and she loved watching her soap operas. She loved cooking all kinds of southern foods...one of her favorites to cook was hog maws and chitterlings. Virginia loved listening to gospel music, but her best-loved time was playing with her grand and great-grandchildren.

Virginia never complained about her illness and she would always tell you "When I'm gone don't worry about me, everything will be alright" and "I won't complain".

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Braxton; three sisters (Bernice (Cat), Bertha and Katie) and three brothers (King David, Julius and John).

Virginia leaves to mourn, her four children, Horace, Bunny, Earlene and Earl, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Francine; one son-in-law, James, Sr.; six grandchildren, Maurice, Tenera, Sharena, James, Jr., Kevin and Alicia; three great-grandchildren, Nikala, Aja and Bella; two sisters, Jannie and Viola whom she raised as a daughter, three brothers, Chester, Hezekiah (Rebecca) and Eddie (Linda); Ms. Evelyn, a close friend; Jimmy, who was like a son; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and her Jerusalem Baptist Church family.
