VERNICE CARRIE MCKAY, the daughter of the late Floyd and Lillian Dean, was born October 27, 1943 in Farmville, Virginia. She departed this life on October 22, 2020.
After moving to Baltimore, Maryland, she attended Baltimore City Public Schools, where she later graduated from Clifton High School. Vernice accepted the Lord at an early age and was active in church where the holy spirit intervened in her life on a regular basis. She was an active church member at Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed helping in anyway possible.
She was employed by the Baltimore City Public Schools, Dr. Bernard Harris (#250) and John Commodore Rodgers (#27), for forty years before retiring. She married her childhood sweetheart, Daniel McKay Sr. and of this union, three children were born Tammie, Daniel Lee Jr., and Tina. “Weebee”, as she was known by many, could always be counted on to light up a room with her smile and laughter. She made many friends wherever she went. She was a devoted family woman who loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a true friend. Without giving a second thought, she would do whatever she could do to brighten someone’s day.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Daniel McKay Sr. and her siblings Floyd, Samuel, Alice, Mildred, Martha, Alfred, and Bobby.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Tammie Renee Moore, Daniel Lee Roscoe McKay, Jr., Tina Marie McCormick; one daughter-in-law, Kitty McKay; two sons-in-law, Joe Moore and Kenny Bizzelle; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Tiara, Autum, Ashley, Cortney, Shaniqua, and Alyssa; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Josiah, and Delaney; two siblings Margaret and Ernest; six sisters-in-law Berene, Venus, Tira, Faye, Julie, and Michelle; one brother-in-law, Adrian, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close friends.
