Verneva Henry, fondly known to many as “Bunny,” was peacefully called to her heavenly home on May 25, 2026.

Bunny’s story began on April 10, 1925, in Hoke County, North Carolina, where she was born to Benjamin F. and Irene Wactor.

She received her education in North Carolina before relocating to Maryland.

In Maryland, Bunny married Kaifus Henry, on June 6, 1942. During their union, they shared four children, although two passed shortly after childbirth.

Bunny was a woman of sharp wit and talent. She worked as a skilled seamstress and possessed the gift of being able to craft just about anything. She was a stickler for neatness and order, a trait that shone brightly through her character and in her wardrobe.

Beyond her work, Bunny was a passionate bowler. She was a familiar face at the AMF Bowling Center in Woodlawn. Through the years, she honed her skills to competing in and winning numerous tournaments while taking great pride in her collection of trophies.

Bunny lived a simple life. She spent hours solving puzzles and keeping up with game shows like Press Your Luck, Family Feud, Chain Reaction, and The Match Game, just to name a few. She also enjoyed watching the cooking shows, though she was never shy about offering a funny skeptical facial expression when the food didn’t look quite right. To know Bunny was to know her favorite treats: a good plate of fried lake trout, a generous helping of ice cream, starlight mints, and absolutely anything chocolate. Even towards the end, Bunny developed a newfound love for Dum Dum lollipops – a treat she enjoyed so much, she was often seen happily enjoying two at a time.

On April 1, 2026, due to her declining health, Bunny moved into Autumn Lake at Birch Manor in Sykesville, Maryland. Though her time there was brief, she captured the hearts of many and formed lasting relationships. They included, but were not limited to, her bond with her caring and protective roommate and nursing staff – specifically, Ms. Marcella “Marty” Wright, Mrs.LaKeisha Bell, RN, Ms. Rachel Jones, GNA, and Mr. Charles Garrett, LPN – all of whom took every opportunity to spoil her. At Autumn Lake, Bunny was quickly known for her funny facial expressions, sweet smile, and her signature “thumb up” gesture to let others know that she was okay.

On April 10, 2026, Bunny celebrated her 101st birthday surrounded by smiles, immense laughter, and her favorite food and desserts. To commemorate this incredible milestone, she received an official citation of recognition signed by the Carroll County Senator and Delegates.

Bunny leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Jacqueline West; her grandchildren, Sherrell McNamara (Keith Sr.), Edward Henry Jr. (Kim), Keisha Henry, and David Henry; her great-grandchildren, Delonte Worsham, Keith McNamara Jr., Kayla McNamara, Lakel Henry, Edward Henry III, Camya Henry, Armani Sanders, Andrew Dorsey, Cache Winston, and Tyson Day; her niece Regina Wactor Whitlock; her nephew Gary Wactor; her long-time friend Mildred “Mill” Wyatt; and a vast circle of extended family and friends.

Bunny was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Winston Wactor, Sr.; her son, Edward Lewis Henry, Sr.; her granddaughter, LaDetria Worsham; her nephew Winston Wactor, Jr.; and her favorite granddog, Kobi.
