Vernell Martin

Vernell Martin, daughter of the late Gary and Leah Alexander, was born in Halifax County, North Carolina on August 16, 1939.

Vernell departed this life on August 9, 2019 at Northwest Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She received her education in Halifax Public School System. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland at a young age. She worked at several Lunch Room Deli’s and she retired in 1989 when her health started to decline.

She met and married Andrew Martin (who preceded her in death) on December 6,1958. From this union six children were born: Barbara, Joyce, Andrew, Jennifer, Dale and Lavell ( who preceded her in death ).

Vernell was also known as Butch by many. She made numerous friends wherever she went. Vernell was always a devoted family person. She loved her grandchildren and they meant the world to her. She would do anything for them. She loved to cook, raise plants, shop, watch her Gospel Shows, listen to G.E. Patterson and Jimmy Swaggered and eat crabs.

Vernell Martin leaves to cherish her memory , her loving children, Barbara Martin, Joyce Lawson ( Thomas ), Andrew Martin, Jennifer Johnson and Dale Martin. Special children, Ramona Brown and Katrina Branch,Ten Grandchildren: Antione, Neal, Shannelle , Jamar, Tiara , Romell , Jania , Dale Jr., Lakiesha and Brendon, Sixteen Great Grandchildren: Breyana, Aleijah, Kailah, Aaliyah, Kenya, Shemar, Shaiheem, Gordon, Nikiyah, Malayah, Sha’d, Justin, Jemel, Ga Bria, Zion, Ivy, and Gia; Two Great Great Grandchildren: Bre’Elle and De’Moni, Four Sisters: Annie Mae Clark, Elizabeth Clark, Rebecca Hart ( preceded her in death), and Cora Green ( Bobby Sr. ).Three Brothers that preceded her in death ( Odis, Perry and Willie Alexander). One Sister in Law, Eleanor Alexander. She also leaves numerous other relatives and friends. she has four very special friends that will celebrate her Victory With Jesus: Bessie Anderson, Rose Anderson, Elnora Crowder and Lillian Nelson.
