Listen to Obituary

Vanessa Lewis was born on September 30,1958 in Baltimore, MD to James Hunt and Arizona Evans. Mrs. Vanessa “Nessa” Lewis ascended peacefully on March 17, 2021, in Baltimore, MD at the age of 62, after a long battle with Breast Cancer.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized. Vanessa’s rededication to Christ occurred in her adult years.

She married her lifetime love Leon Lewis July 23,1988.

She received her education from Baltimore City Public Schools, where she obtained her high school diploma.

For over 30 years, Vanessa was Food Service Manager for the Baltimore City Public School System.

She was known as “Nessa” to many and “Aunt Nessa” to even more. She loved her work and took pride in ensuring there was never a child hungry in her kitchen. She was an honest, kind, and generous person. Nessa was also a huge Baltimore Ravens Fan. Oldies but Goodies was her choice of music, and she could listen to them for hours, while singing and dancing. She opened her home and heart to many over the years. Although Nessa birthed only three children, she was a “mother” to countless others. Always a supportive ear to those in need. Nessa was a high spirited person and brought joy to everyone around her. Her warm smile and comical laughter was contagious. Nessa truly embodied being a wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and friend. She was truly a gift that brought love and light to the world.

Nessa was preceded in death by husband Leon Lewis, parents James Hunt and Arizona Evans; siblings, James Hunt II, Denise Hunt, Andrew Hunt, and Michael Hunt; beloved dog, Hennessy Lewis, brother-in-law, Tyrone Gross; nephew, Michael Hunt Jr. and her special cousins Robert Campbell and Fred “Mike Lock” Christian.

Vanessa is survived by children, Tyrone Green, Patricia Lewis, Latisha Lewis, and stepdaughter Keisha Lewis; grandson, Tristan Oliver; four step grandchildren, Lionel Rogers, Donta Rogers, Keonna Rogers, and Denisha Dallas; brother, Freddie Hunt; adopted sister, Lucille Boyd; three brothers in-law, Robert Gross, Herbert Gross, and Junious “Lee” Lewis; two sisters in- law, Patricia Lewis and Marie Hewlett; four nephews, James Hunt, Gerard Hunt, Larry Green, Lamont Hunt and Naeem Hunt; niece, Denita Green and a host of cousins, great nieces, and nephews.
