Thelsebea Cecelia Lee was born on April 12, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Donald Kess and the late Celestine V. Lee. On Monday, June 30, 2025, Thelsebea was granted her wings and departed her earthly body.
Thelsebea was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and proudly received her diploma from Dunbar Senior High School. Class of ’71, PP03! She went on to build a fulfilling career with Wells Fargo, where she worked until her retirement.
Thelsebea was a humble person with beautiful energy and subtle qualities as unique as her name. She was known for her grace and class—qualities she carried with her in every aspect of her life. A reflection of patience, with warm eyes and a warmer heart, she had a calming influence, always offering a kind word and a warm smile. She had an endearing, quiet giggle and could often be heard humming a calming tune, bringing comfort and peace to those around her.
She was a consistent person who loved spending time with family and friends. She always showed up for their events, never missing an opportunity to celebrate their milestones or offer comfort in times of need. The family always loved her deviled eggs, which were a staple at gatherings.
A collector of memories and an avid bargain shopper, she wanted her money’s worth and did not allow “her wants to control her needs.” She loved line dancing, trips to Atlantic City, and good food and drinks that brought people together.
Her work ethic was inspiring. She led by example—and with a smile.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Kess; mother, Celestine V. Lee; sister, Dietrich Toles; and brothers, Marlon Kess and Bernard Lee.
She leaves to cherish her memory two beloved sons, James Carter and Tawhid Robert George (Tyese); five grandchildren, Tyonda, Da’Qwan, Sha’Qwanna, Milan, and Carrington; four great-grandchildren, Amarni, Ashtyn, Autumn, and Da’Qwan Jr.; three sisters, Darcell Jones (Sheldon), Sheronda Hunter-Jones, and Cheryl Kess-Brooks; one brother, Darrell Johnson (Doreen); two devoted sister cousins, Sharon Kess and Diane Russell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A special thanks is extended to Tamitcha Evans for her hands-on care, love, and unwavering support
