Sylvia People was born on February 19, 1950. Affectionately known as “Sylvie” to family was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She transitioned peacefully in her sleep on July 30, 2020.

Sylvia was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. She graduated from Carver High School in 1966. Sylvia went on to work at Waverly Press William & Wilkens for 15 years. She later began her 35-year career with the Hearing and Speech Agency. She recently retired a few years ago.

Sylvia was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She enjoyed visiting family, going to the movies, spending time with her grand and great grandchildren, as well as providing for her children. On occasion she would take the neighborhood kids to the park and the nieces and nephews to the circus. Sylvia also enjoyed watching court tv, scenic drives, ocean views, children and helping others.

Sylvia loved Subway’s seafood salad with double meat and honey mustard. After retirement, Sylvia moved in with Arnetta and David. That is where she continued her road trips. She became ill recently. On one of her last phone calls when her granddaughter called to check on her, loving as always, Sylvia told her to take care of her great grandson “John Legend” the nickname she  affectionately called Cairo.

Sylvia leaves to cherish in memory, two children: Anthony Randall Sr. (Kathleen “Dimp”) and Arnetta Backus (David); six grandchildren: Hasan, Anthony Jr, Mellissa, Monique, Tasia, Morgan and Kamariez “Kam”; six siblings: Harriet “Madeline”, Tina “Priscilla”, Pauline “Alice”, Terry “Ronald”, Cynthia and Sharon “Nikki”; seven great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. Please know that even if your name is not listed that you were truly special to Sylvia in her heart.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Marian and Robert People, grandparents Thomas and Rosie; siblings: Rose, Robert “Bobby”, Nathaniel and Isaiah; and her grandchildren Darrius and Darrielle.
