Sylvester King was born on Sunday, June 26, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Henry Lester King and Lillian Bryant. He was the 3rd child of this union and the 10th of 11 siblings whom some preceded his death (Al James Whichard, Booker T. Hall, Charlie Hall, Hortense Meek, and Bernice Miller). He was suddenly called home on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
Sylvester grew up in Baltimore City and was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. After leaving high school, Sylvester worked at Royal Crown Cola, Rombro Warehouse, and Life Like Products before joining the United States Army National Guard in 1978. After his discharge, Sylvester worked for Baltimore City Public Works until his retirement in 2010. Since then, he has quietly enjoyed living as a retiree.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at cookouts, crab feasts or just partying with good company.
He loved his Al Green and Temptations music. Sometimes you could find him singing Al Green songs with so much passion, it was his personal “hour of power”. Sylvester also enjoyed exercising and running to stay fit until he was no longer able to get around as much. Many days he would sit on his porch, smoke a cigarette and watch the cars and people go up and down the street. He made no comments; he just watched. Many times, he had those deep conversations and between each sentence he would say, “see what I’m saying”.
He leaves to cherish his memory three children: Sylvester Washington (Lanita), Olivia King, and Quiana Frazier; eight grandchildren (Jaquawn, Karon, Jasmine, Kalil, Love, Ezra, Harvey, Honey) and one great grandchild (Heavenly); one brother, Henry J. King; three sisters, Lossie Marie Brown, Joe Ann King-McQuaige (Jesse) and Lillian Hall. He also leaves seven nieces and eight nephews and a host of great nieces, nephews, and friends.
