Sweetie Walton

May 18, 1929 — March 9, 2021

Listen to Obituary

Sweetie Walton was born on Saturday, May 18, 1929, to the late Edward Wert and Elizabeth Mary Eggleston in Prince Edward County, VA, and on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, she slipped away peacefully into God’s loving Arms.

Sweetie moved to Baltimore, MD, with her family at a noticeably young age. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Her passions included baking and sewing. She aspired to be a seamstress after completing her education. She worked at Bugle Laundry and Virginia Bakery for several years. During this time she dated and married, her husband of twenty-six years, the late Charles L. Walton who preceded her in death.

Sweetie was a Sweetie Pie, a take charge person who always wanted things done her way. She loved to give and enjoyed helping others. She shared whatever she had with her family and friends. The delicious, sweet pies she was known for baking touched the heart of many people and put a smile on their faces.

Sweetie joined Mt. Calvary Star Baptist Church in 1986 under the leadership of Dr. Alex Young. Sweetie loved her Pastor and the members of Mt. Calvary Star Baptist Church. She was dedicated to her worship as she served many years as an active member of the Pastor Aide ministry. Sweetie was deeply loved. Sweetie had several close friends in the church (Ida Green and Alice Benjamin) and in the neighborhood (Mr. Wallace and his family). During her illness, she was ever so grateful for the support of Mr. Wallace and his family.

Preceding her in death are her sisters Flora Davis and Alice Crowell; and brothers, Reginald, Albert, and Leroy Eggleston.

Sweetie leaves to cherish her memory stepson, Lucius Walton; grandson, Christopher Walton of Meherrin, VA; grand-daughters, Amy, Tamaitha, Carolyn, Barbara, and Joy of Richmond, VA; brother, Rev. Edward Wert Eggleston and wife, Vivian of Baltimore, MD; sisters, Barbara Morrant of Vacaville, CA, and Mother Odessa Davis of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-Law, Alma Eggleston; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends whom She loved dearly.
