Listen to Obituary

Susie M. Wright, daughter of the late Edward and Annie Clark, was born on June 3, 1930, in Oak City, North Carolina. She transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, September 29. 2019.

She received her education at Whicard James High School in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. Seeking a better life for her family, Susie moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1954. She was employed at Waverly Press for over 25 years, she retired in 1995.

In 1956, Susie joined Southern Baptist Church under the lead - ership of the late Reverend James R. Grant. On March 20, 1956, she married the love of her life, LeVerne Wright. Together they raised nine children.

Susie was a dedicated worshiper and treasured spending time with the Lord. She loved gathering with the saints at noon day prayer and Friday night prayer. Susie enjoyed singing. She was a long term member of the Jubilee Chorus and the Southern Baptist Mass Choir. She sang on the choir until she was unable to climb the steps to the choir loft. So she took a seat on the third pew where you could always find her every Sunday for all three services. Laughter was an enormous part of Susie’s life. People would gather around her in between services to listen to her. Everyone admired her big hats, especially the green wide brim one. She loved people and in turn she was loved.

Susie loved to travel. Every year she would attend the Baptist Convention in Virginia with her nieces. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Pitty Pat. You could find her every night from 5:00 to 8:00 in the playroom of her building. She called it “going to work”. She also enjoyed her puzzle books where she would spend hours with them. Family and friends meant the world to Susie. The most precious moments were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her son, James Clarke, preceded her in death.

Susie leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories: her children, Edward Clarke, Evelyn Player, and Lee Curtis Clarke, Sr. (Angela); six grandchildren, Monicka Boyd, Alethea Finch, Nikeshia Clarke, Lee Curtis Clarke, Jr. (Jennifer), Alicia Clarke, and Kim Fogg; thirteen great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; two nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.

God gave Susie a multitude of friends who loved her and she loved hem. She will be missed.
