Solomon Lee
Williams Sr.
October 7, 1938 – May 11, 2026
Suddenly, on Monday, May 11, 2026, Solomon Lee Williams, Sr. got the call that his mark has been left and his purpose here on earth has been fulfilled. Solomon was born October 7, 1938, to the late Everline Williams Jones and Charlie Williams in South Hill, Virginia. He was the eldest of ten children.
Sol, as he was affectionately known, attended the M.M. Booker School in South Hill, VA. Sol was big on his family being educated since he was unable to fully finish his schooling due to him having to help his father with farming as a young boy. However, that did not hinder Sol from becoming one of the smartest people one could have ever known.
Sol could take you anywhere you wanted to go (no GPS, no map), fix or build anything (no manual, no instructions) and give some of the best advice from his wisdom. Sol was the epitome of self-taught, self-made and a true master craftsman. He was truly gifted.
In 1954 at the age of sixteen, Sol followed his uncle Archie to Midlothian, Virginia where he met the love of his life, the late Mildred Williams. They relocated to Baltimore, Maryland and married on June 1,1962, producing three children from this union.
Sol loved him some Mildred so much, he wouldn’t eat anyone else’s cooking but hers; and if you were fortunate enough to have his wife’s cooking, you would understand why.
Sol was employed at W.R Grace, a leading global chemical plant, working as a Chemical Operator. He retired after forty years of service.
Known for his tough exterior and good heart, Sol was a guiding force in the lives of those he loved. He had a unique ability to blend discipline with deep affection, teaching important life lessons through both words and actions. His children and grandchildren would describe him as their greatest teacher, instilling values of resilience, integrity and hard work.
Beyond his role as the family’s patriarch, Sol was a man of community. He believed in the importance of lending a hand and was the first to offer support to neighbors and friends in need. His raspy southern drawl could fill a room, and his stories of life challenges and triumphs resonated deeply with anyone fortunate to hear them. Sol was a true gem and the last of his kind.
Sol was preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred Williams, sons Solomon Williams Jr. and Mark Williams Sr., parents Everline Williams Jones and Charlie Williams, brother McKinley Williams and sisters Annie Cash and Grace Thompson.
He is survived by his only daughter Karen Williams; son, Tavon Height; eleven grandchildren including devoted grandchildren Aisha Bolling, whom he raised and Mark Williams Jr., with whom he shared a special bond. He leaves behind six sisters-Elizabeth Johnson, Rosa Scott, Lucille Thomas, Pearl Williams, Sarah Ellison, and Gloria Shamburg; along with two brothers-in-law, David Johnson and James Thompson; aunt, Grace Duke; twenty great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind a community that will forever cherish his contributions and the values he instille
