Shirley Mae Thomas

Shirley Mae Thomas Taylor, was born to the late William Hollis and Doris Hollis Watson in Centerville, Maryland on June 8, 1937. Shirley gained her wings on June 26, 2018.

Shirley was educated in the Centerville Public School System. Shirley left the Eastern Shore at an early age. Shirley married the late William Randolph Thomas, Jr. and out of that union she had 6 children, in which 3 preceded her in death Michael, Earl and William III. Later in her life, Shirley met and married James Curtis Taylor and out of that union she had 2 children. Shirley and Curtis enjoyed going to Bill Dotson’s and Curtis would drive her over the bay bridge to see her family on the Eastern Shore. Shirley loved her job at Johns Hopkins Hospital and worked there until her retirement. Shirley was better known as “Smitty” to all that knew her. Everyone that knew Smitty knew she had a green thumb and that she loved to show off her flowers on her porch. Shirley enjoyed shopping (The Layaway Queen) and she was known for decorating for every holiday. Shirley loved her relaxation time sitting on her porch and drink - ing with her “buddies”. Shirley loved to get up on Sunday morning to cook her dinner; her speciality was spaghetti. Shirley also loved listening to her oldies but goodies.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories her loving hus - band, James Curtis Taylor; five children, Doris Byrd (Horace), Shirley Thomas (Robert), Corinda Mclean (Andy), Karen Pulley (Marvin), Keith Taylor; one brother, William Hollis (Ruth); one sister, Betty Romanowski; three uncles, Robert Pritchett, Oliver Pritchett and George Pritchett; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren; a special friend, Annie Bell Taylor and a special cousin Robert Pritchett who would often visit her at the nursing home. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
